A Jeninda Welsh Cardigan Corgi is more than a pet — they’re a cherished member of your family, bringing laughter, love, and companionship in equal measure. It’s easy to see why anyone who meets a Cardigan quickly falls in love!

The Welsh Cardigan Corgi, with its rich history dating back centuries in Wales, holds significant cultural and historical importance as a beloved herding dog and loyal companion to farmers and royalty alike. The Cardigan is a remarkable 3,000-year-old breed and the original corgi, pre-dating the Pembroke by around 2,000 years.
Today, the Cardigan is loved for its outgoing attitude and happy nature, and with their even temperament, loyalty, affection, and adaptability, Cardigans are a delightful addition to any family. Their energy levels can vary—some are endlessly energetic, while others are content to relax.
Cardigans generally have a more laid-back demeanour compared to their Pembroke cousins. With an average weight of 12-15 kg, their overall balance is more important than their exact size.
Cardigans come in a range of stunning coat colours, including sable (reds), brindle (red, brown, and black), tri-color with tan or brindle points (sometimes appearing black and white), and blue merle (with tan or brindle points). These may be accompanied by white markings on the neck, chest, legs, muzzle, or as a blaze on the head.
Corgis are known for their sassy streak—they may talk back and aren’t fans of rough handling. If you upset them, don’t be surprised to get the infamous cold shoulder or a withering glare. However, they’re quick to forgive and don’t hold grudges. With your commitment and care, a Corgi will match your dedication tenfold. These dogs thrive on human connection, and simply being in your company is enough to make them happy.
Their versatility and charm make them a truly exceptional breed.
Corgi's are rated as the 11th smartest breed in Stanley Coren's book 'The Intelligence of Dogs'. They're smart and easy to train. The Cardigan is an affectionate and active companion that excels in agility, obedience, tracking and, of course, herding competitions.
We're not sure if this is true, but we have seen pixie dust on sleepy eyes in the mornings... Welsh legend says the fairies and elves of Wales used the Welsh Corgi to pull their fairy coaches, work the fairy cattle, and serve as the steed for the brave and strong fairy warriors.
Our dogs are health screened prior to breeding to ensure our puppies are DNA clear of the common ailments affecting most breeds. They are a generally healthy breed with an average lifespan of 12-15 years.
If you are often away from home for work and other responsibilities and whilst the social, affectionate Cardi appreciates time with family, they can also be left safely at home alone for four to eight hours during the day, if provided enough exercise and mental stimulation. And don't forget access to water!
